Reddish Pose

Reddish Pose

There are 3 wading species that I find the most enjoyable to photograph because of their wild behaviors. Tricolored Heron (my favorite), Snowy Egret, and you can't leave out the magnificent Reddish Egret! The Reddish is probably the most famous of that group for their wild chasing behaviors and often akward poses as they run, fly, jump, and contort their bodies chasing fish in the shallows. On this foggy morning I went with a simple high-key look exposed the image for the bird and let everything else go white. Then it's as easy as letting these fancy new cameras track the bird through the frame and 20 frames-per-second takes care of capturing "the moment" These types of images used to require a good bit more skill but technology has made it much easier and more reliable when the opportunity presents itself. I'm certainly not complaining and enjoyed the ability to just put myself in the right place and let the camera do all the hard work for me. If the result is fun photos like this, I'll take it!
