Great Reflection

Great Reflection

I had already photographed far too many images of this Great Egret feeding in the shallows right in front of me. When it came in very close I started trying to find some unique compositions and this one stood out to me while looking through the viewfinder. I liked how the reflection was blurred and subtle, almost not there, but the bold and elegant curves of the body and neck of this Great Egret stood out so nicely against the black background. This is where a prime lens is an advantage to me personally. If I have access to a zoom lens I'm always tempted to zoom out to include the entire bird or even more of the scene. When I'm stuck on my 500mm and a large bird like this walks in very close to me I'm almost forced to start trying unique compositions and for me that ends up pushing me into directions like this.
