Marbled Godwit

Marbled Godwit

I had been at Bunche Beach for around 2.5 hours photographing everything from Reddish Egrets down to tiny Least Sandpipers all along the exposed shoreline area. About 200 feet out in the bay there was an exposed sand bar with a flock of Black Skimmers so I decided to head out there to see if I could get them feeding. As soon as I got out to the sand bar I noticed a pair of Marbled Godwit feeding in the shallows. They were very occupied with feeding and didn't mind me walking up at all. I set up the ground pod in a direction I thought one of them would go and it obliged and walked right in front of me. For most of the morning it had been overcast but just at that moment the sun peeked through the clouds a bit to give me some really nice light. I had seen these handsome birds a few times before but they were always very far away so this was great to have them so close. Taken at Bunch Beach Preserve in Fort Myers, Florida.
