I think this was a young Northwest Crow that I came across that decided to play with something it found on the ground. I don't know what the object is but it looks like some man-made trash. The crow picked it up and tossed it around a couple of times before moving on to other things. The main reason I love this portrait is the background color. When we first arrived at this spot I immediately noticed the incredible color of the water in the inlet. I'm guessing the color is due to the glacial runoff from the small rivers feeding into these waters. I did my best in this photo to line up the bird with the distant water background and got exactly what I was after which was a soft-lit portrait of the crow against a vibrant background.
