Nothing like a good foot wagging just before sunrise. This baby Common Loon already has massive feet and like all loons loved to occasionally wag them in the air. I was already lined up on this little one in the beautiful dawn colors and low fog when it decided to show off the foot and it was pretty easy to grab the shot. The mood on the lake when it's calm and quiet and the fog is hanging on the water as the sun is starting to glow is amazing. It's one of my favorite places to be and the solitude of being there with just myself, my client and the birds was so wonderful. These amazing conditions and not another person around, just the way I like it! I always have a bit of a smirk on my face when on a morning like this we are all wrapped up and leaving the lake just as other people are showing up. I say hello and many times exchange a polite back and forth about how beautiful it is when they have arrived. Meanwhile in my head I'm thinking "you have no idea what you missed!" but of course I don't say that. It's often tough to wake up at 4:30am for the 10th day in a row but for these moments alone in nature I never regret it.
