What a sight for my first time ever photographing an American Golden Plover. We found a pair of them pretty early in the morning but the sun was already starting to get somewhat strong so I had to pay attention to the angle of the bird to get any light in the eye. I finally got a good angle and composition and took this image. My goal was to show off the incredible scenic habitat behind the bird out on the wide open tundra. I took the original image wide open at f/5.6 for the setup I was using which allowed me to get a more blurred foreground to help the bird stand out. I then immediately took the same composition at f/13 so I could see the mountain range in the background more clearly. In post I blended the mountain background with the bird and the foreground and created this final scene.
