Prothonotary Dry Out

Prothonotary Dry Out

It was pretty damp in the forest on this morning and this Prothonotary Warbler was bouncing around the edges of a stream through the southern New Jersey pinelands searching for food. It was pretty cool when he hopped up on this perch right next to where I was tucked in and decided to shake off. Even at 1/500 his wings and tail caught plenty of motion blur which gave this otherwise plain portrait something special. With my warbler photography I'm always looking to capture them in their habitat and on something more than just a plain branch, but sometimes that is the best way to show off the species an if you can add some slightly different behavior well then all the better. I made sure to compose the shot to include that little set of leaves growing in the bottom as well as I thought that was a nice touch.
