Moments after the sun set for the day this Burrowing Owl came out of its burrow and got ready to hunt for the night. There is a sweet spot of about 5-10 minutes I've found when the sun has set on a clear evening and there is still a wonderful direction to the light. The sky is much brighter in the direction of sunset and the opposite sky slowly begins to turn into a deeper and deeper blue. While there isn't much light, the quality of it is lovely. I composed this shot to include a couple of taller flowers in the foreground as this marble-eyed bird stared out into the bright sky. I loved the alert look on its face as it actively scanned its surroundings looking for food to grab. One other neat thing about shooting at this time is due to choosing a slower shutter speed and higher ISO you can make it look quite bright out even though the light was rather dim to my eyes.
