Every year I try to visit a small fish market in Sebastian Florida that hosts a large flock of American White Pelicans. They tend to hang out on the dock and in the surrounding water to get scraps of fish that are discarded from the market. Because they are there so often they are somewhat used to people and with a slow methodical approach you can get pretty close to them. This photo was taken just after the sun dipped below the fish market building so the birds were in shade and settling in for the evening. I noticed one particular bird had tucked its huge beak under a wing and was sleeping. Occasionally it would open its eye to look around. I slowly moved in to capture just that open eye in the sea of white pelican feathers. I liked the peaceful feeling of the single bird eye surrounded by white. Taken in Sebastian, Florida.
